If it’s October it has to be High Point Market.

Although I’ve been in the design business for over 15 years, this past spring was my very first High Point Market. How have I been missing this adult Disney World? So many new products, so much to see and SO much walking. My husband, a veteran of trade shows with geeky guys and government budgets, was right at home with the free food and drinks.

Which could explain how we ended up with this big, green coffee table, which was repurposed from a genuine antique Chinese opium bed!!!! Fingers crossed that it works in our family room when it arrives! I think that statue behind the table is me in effigy.

A few style trends I saw coming out of High Point Market:

Thick, chunky glass – I love it!

Acrylic and glass pairings

Pro Tip: be sure that when you buy a table that the top is glass - acrylic will scratch!

Glass and brass

I know this has been a trend for a while, but I don’t see it going away any time soon.  It’s a great trend because it is not heavy – you see right through it so it doesn’t take up any visual space.

Dogs!

The Dogs of High Point would make a great coffee table book.  Worlds Away takes their mascot so seriously that he is in their catalogue!  I felt like I was meeting a celebrity – too bad he was napping at the time. Apparently, he is in love with their fleece sofa and won’t leave it. Can’t say I blame him.

Designer Books

No, I don’t mean coffee table books! These fun graphic and message-laden book spines are a great way to spice up empty bookshelves. These book vendors make any personal message possible.

the color Pink

The color pink was in abundance at Market. It also popped up quite a bit at the Richmond Designer House.

French HeritageHow about this hot pink Bombe chest hiding behind these Art Deco chairs? I am still desperately trying to find a place for these gorgeous and surprisingly comfortable chairs.
